Cash Back Rewards Programs

Find the Best Cash Back Credit Card Offer

Cash back reward programs are one of the most popular types of credit card rewards. The reward basis is more flexible than other programs because cash rebates can be spent on anything the cardholder chooses. Depending on which card you choose, cash back rewards may be received as gift certificates, credits to your account, or a check sent to you in the mail.

All of the major credit card issuers offer a variety of programs for you to choose from, and in some cases these can be combined with other features such as low interest rate cards. Some popular variations include:

  • Points programs that allow you to redeem points for a variety of things including merchandise, travel, gift cards, or cash back.
  • Cash back rewards that are higher (5%) on certain things, like gas, groceries and drug store purchases, and lower (1%) on other purchases.
  • Cards designed primarily to save money on gas, sometimes with a higher cash back bonus during an introductory period.

Cash back percentages often increase in line with how much is spent on the card or what types of purchases are made. However, some programs offer the same percentage no matter how much is spent. It is important that the cardholder understands exactly which spending activities will generate rebates and how much those rebates will be. Most cards offer a 1% or 1.5% rebate on general purchases and a higher percentage on specified goods and services, usually up to 5%.
